COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 12, 2011) – Palmetto Clean Energy (PaCE), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting renewable energy generation in South Carolina, is celebrating Earth Month as the Presenting Sponsor for the Columbia Design League's annual Runaway Runway event and encouraging South Carolinians to take steps to live and act sustainably.
Launched in 2007, PaCE encourages the development and addition of renewable energy resources, such as solar, hydro, biomass and wind energy to South Carolina's power supply. Through PaCE, customers of South Carolina's investor-owned utilities (SCE&G, Duke Energy and Progress Energy) can purchase tax-deductible blocks of green, renewable energy for as little as $4 per month and have them added to South Carolina's power supply. One block of green power is the equivalent of approximately 10 percent of an average home's monthly usage.
"Sustainability and a cleaner environment are important to South Carolina's citizens, and we're proud to support green initiatives such as Runaway Runway," said Bob Long, chairman of the PaCE board of directors. "The event, which takes place during Earth Month, is a great way to help raise environmental awareness and educate South Carolinians about renewable energy in our state."
In addition to supporting Runaway Runway, PaCE will share simple ideas and suggestions on how to better the environment throughout Earth Month. Information will be shared via the organization's Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as the PaCE website. Follow PaCE on Twitter at www.twitter.com/PaCE_SC and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/palmettocleanenergy.
The Columbia Design League's Runaway Runway event is Columbia's premier fashion show that aims to raise design and environmental awareness through the use of post-consumer materials constructed into wildly fantastic wearables. While the entire world is serious about being green, this event proves that green can be fun, fashionable and funky, too. For more information, visit www.runawayrunway.net.
